A blog for today
I think both the last 2 presidential elections were flagrantly stolen and I'm having serious doubts about the voting situation everywhere in America at this point. Actually it bothers me so much that I have had trouble continuing to work and pay taxes, knowing where it goes. So, for now I'm a slacker and am going to try to minimize supporting this gov't. Civil disobedience I guess. It seems like that pisses off conservative supporters of this regime to see liberals not working. So it's got multiple benefits.
On another note, I watched "Boys don't cry" tonight. I'd seen it several years ago, but a friend said she watched it sometimes to cry. Being in a pretty sad moment in my life, I gave it a try. Maybe I shouldn't have, because it only made me feel worse. It is an extremely sad movie. It shows some of the key differences between men and women. Being a guy, I can't fully empathize the things that happened the main character. Of course, I would understand getting the shit kicked out or even the murder aspects, which are themselves tragicly sad. This movie made me think of a big issue that is ripping the world apart -
Segregation I'm not talking about blacks and whites really, but a mental segregation that too many people erect between their groups and the perceived outside groups. This of course does happen based on color and ethnicity, but there are many other popular ways of segregating.
Gender Segregation is the norm in America, and having grown up under it all my life, I feel I'm a victim of this ideology. I feel I can't have a well developed strictly platonic relationship with a woman I'm attracted to. I do try deeply to develop friendship with my significant other though, and feel I've done this well in the past. My last relationship started as friendship and I felt like she was indeed my best friend even after she broke the news of our breakup. But of course this was far from platonic. On the other hand, when I've had best-freindships with guys it's always been very platonic. I greatly regret dumping a truly great best friend when I began deepening my relationship with my girlfriend. I was 19 or 20 at the time, and that was a grave mistake. I allowed lust to separate me from friendship. I perceived at the time that it was ok to create a segregation of us and everyone else. Doesn't our society drill it into our heads that man and woman get together, become a couple, then everyone else is outside? I now know this is very wrong and that even though people become a couple, they can still be part of the greater group of humanity first.
I'm won't advocate narrow nationalistic ideology that many others subcribe to however, but how about planet first? How about the whole of humanity first? I think in reality the desires of our flesh are a distraction, albeit a pleasant one, from the greater scheme of things. The other types of prevalent segregation techniques I follow with can, for the most part, be fit to the methods I've said thus far, so I will try to not go too deep into them.
Class and Social segregation was very prevalent in my teenage years and I can't see why it wouldn't carry forward as people continue to age.
Sex orientation is definitely one of the big points that people like to segregate over. "They're not like us", "they can't do this" or whatever. This was a big theme of tonight's movie, which started my thinking on the subject.
Religion is another huge point of segregation. It's either the christian way and what "good christians" should do or everyone else. They do often try to bring others into the fold, but I think this is a way to reward their ego. They still maintain the segregation into the conversion process for some time before you're in their club. This goes for non-religious clubs and frats too, which thrive on the same sort of segregation and ego trip mentality of recruiting new members at the bottome level. This is also a way to reward the faithful of the group, but that's another subject.
Politics are usually a subset of religion for most. People usually only bother segregating here if their religion gives them permiossion too. This is very misled in most cases, as the loudest religious leaders usually speak to perpetuate their glory, not always for the benefit of the audience.
Employment may generally be a subset of others or standalone segregation. Not just employed or not, but much like a caste system we may rank people into groups based on their professions or lack there of.
Today I spent some time packing up her stuff and then of course much time on the internet here. Overall it was a pretty good day.
