Current Events
Forgive me, for I have sinned.
It has been a
couple weeks since my last blog entry and I feel like it's time to catch
up.
First, there's something troubling about my bar going from last night. I
went to the usual spot to sing karaoke and see the regular acquaintances. It
usually takes a couple of drinks before I get warmed up and am able to really
let loose on the mic. Recently though, I've been opening up more and more. So,
last night I was doing the usual numbers and getting well spaced out by other
singers as well, about a 5 person rotation. I know I'm not a great singer, so I
try to be conservative and not go overboard on the notes.
So, here I am
finishing up about my 3rd song and this lady gets loud in an apparent attempt to
discourage me from singing and says "he needs to put the mic down", "he can't
sing", and other things like that. Now, I've definitely had my fair share of
adversity in life, so this was not a new type situation for me. I didn't have
time to think about my response, just automatically responded by attacking her
for criticizing me, saying basically it wasn't professional singing, it was
karaoke, and if she didn't like to hear bad singing she shouldn't be there for
the karaoke. After I got a hold of myself a little better, I thanked her for the
criticism and was done with it. It was a little infuriating though to hear
someone attack me when they were no better. I think karaoke is there for the
singer to have fun, and it's not really about hearing "good" singing.
Personally, I think it's great to hear people that sing bad and still have the
guts to do it, because it's still fun. There's this one guy in particular who I
used to really enjoy who did Elvis really well. He'd really get into it and wail
on the mic. A lot of people didn't appreciate him and he eventually stopped
coming to the bar to perform. This was a loss to amateur karaoke nights at
Ray's.
So, it's pretty nice having this diary to write in. It helps me to
work over some of my more important problems in life through this dialogue to
resolve these issues.
I'm going to be posting a lot to catch up for what I've
missed, hopefully I can get in done pretty soon, bear with
me.

I agree with you about the types of singer you will find on karaoke night. It is all for the fun of it and if people can not handle bad singing then they should not be there.
Have fun with it....that is the whole point.
